Millions of children around the world are hungry to learn, yet remain illiterate due to lack of access to books or libraries. Instead, their days are often spent carrying heavy containers of water or working hard to support their families. In Nicaragua, despite recent government efforts to improve child literacy levels nationwide, many children will never have the opportunity to borrow a book or to spend time in a library, learning and reading in a safe and stimulating environment.
Dos Pueblos works directly with local community organizer and library founder Rosa Lilliam Gómez and numerous library volunteers, providing donations of books, school supplies, and the financial resources needed to get a new libraries up and running.
